Snippets on Alpacas
There are two types of Alpacas - the Huacaya [pronounced Wak-eye-yuh] and the Suri [pronounced Soo-ri].
Both types of alpaca carry a fine fleece which can be used in fibre production, however each has different underlying characteristics.
Huacaya alpacas have a dense, crimp fleece and have a fluffy appearance.
Suri alpacas are well known for the lustre or shine that is present in their fleece and their unique pencil-like lock structure.
Alpacas are extremely easy to look after, making them ideal for small land holders, families, people who work in other employment or commercial farmers.
