At Brenel Alpacas our goal is to present the finest quality fibre, yarn and products to our customers. We are realising our goals by carefully selecting quality raw fibre and adhering to strict quality controls.
After shearing we select a quantity of raw fibre in a range of colours. The fibre is cleaned by hand to remove any impurities before it's washed and carded.
Washed and Carded Alpaca Fibre is available for sale direct from Brenel Alpacas or through our online shop.
Each year some of our fibre is blended with natural or coloured silk during the carding process. This allows us to offer fibre artists uniquely coloured fibre for spinning and felting projects. For more information contact us.
In 2006 we started processing a large proportion of our fibre into commercially processed knitting yarn. In the beginning the yarn we had available to customers was 80% alpaca 20% wool blend in 5 natural colours. It was our aim to produce 100% alpaca yarn and after feedback from our customers our next yarn production was 100% alpaca in 5 pastel shades. The 100% alpaca knitting yarn was very popular with demand outstripping our supply.
In 2010 we decided to buy fibre from other alpaca breeders as our herd of alpacas wouldn't produce the volume of fibre required for the increased volumes of knitting yarn needed to met our customer orders. We were very fortunate to be able to buy a large quantity of fibre which meant we could also increase our colour range of knitting yarn. At present we have a yarn colour range which included 5 natural colours and 17 fashion colours. This yarn knits as a 4 ply.
Our range of alpaca yarns increased to include 100% alpaca boucle yarn in 9 stunning colours. The boucle yarn knits as 8 ply (Double Knit)
Brenel Alpacas yarn is available for sale direct from Brenel Alpacas through our online shop.
